Lagos branch has just announced the passing of Dr. G. C. OKEKE. 1956 class. Nile House. College Prefect.
At Umuahia, Okeke popularly known as Eben he or Ebente; was super brilliant. He could draw a straight line without a ruler!!. For the first 4 years he was first every term until Higher School when Ododo took over. At the Shell exams for secondary schools in 1960, Okeke was first in Nigeria with 98% score.
He was not gifted in sports but with Chidozie and Ajibade, they took the game Monopoly to another level.
He has been one of the very few students to score A1 in Zoology in Cambridge Higher School. Medicine was natural for him which he studied at Unilag with Ogbuawa and Ukpong.
In Lagos he was ever so helpful and provided the branch with a ready made meeting room at the Conference Room of his Havana Hospital. He is a native of Obosi in Anambra State although he was born and raised in the North.
We will miss Dr Okeke who was Umuahian in thought, word and deed.
May God accept his soul.
