He passed the West African school examination with Grade 1 in 1957. In 1958 he was admitted to the pioneer class of Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate (HSC) which he successfully completed in 1950. Soon after the HSC course, Iro completed for, and won a Shell Scholarship to read Petroleum engineering at imperial College of Science & Technology, University of London. He was awarded the University’s B.Sc (Special Hons) degree and Associateship of the Royal School Mines (ARSM) in 1995.

He later attended several professional and management programmes in the course of his carrer among which was a post-graduate course in Resevoir engineering and Petroleum Economics at the Enrico Mattei School of Hydrocarbons, Milan-Italy, 1966 – 1067.

Iro spent his entire working carrier in the Oil Industry during which period he worked as various times with shell in Nigeria, Agip Mineraria in Italy, Gulf Oil (now Chevron) in Escravos, the Petroleum Division of the Federal Ministry of mInes and Power. he finally ended up in Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation from where he retired executive Director.

Since retirement Iro has held a number of positions in both the public and private sectors among which are:-

• Chairman, stallion Property and Development Limited (asubsidiary of NNPC).

• Chairman/CEO Projays Ltd. (Petroleum Engineering Company)

• Chairman, Hunting Oilfield Services Ltd. (joint venture between Scotish and Nigerian groups).

Iro is very happily married to Mrs. Maria Iro with whom he has seven children who are all professionals in their various fields. Three of these children are married and have themselves produced seven children among them.
