Engr.
Lawrence Abiodun Oyike Amu, born on 23rd December 1933,attended
Government College Umuahia between 1948 and 1954 before proceeding
to University College, Ibadan in 1954 for an Inter B.Sc. He enrolled
in Imperial college of Science and Technology, London in 1958 and
received his BSc in Engieering in 1960. In 1961, he was enployed
in london by the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN ) and in
1962 he was posted to lagos Distribution District as Protection
Engineer. in1965 he was transferred to the headquarters in Marina,
during which time he commissioned the 132kv line lagos-Ibadan-Oshogbo,
Oshogbo-Akure and kaduna-Zaria-kano. In 1967 he was posted to the
Generation Department as a project Engineer and in 1968 he moved
to the Niger Dams Authority (NDA).
In 1970, he became the manager Operations for the
NDA and on the merging of ECN and NDA in 1973 he was appointed the
firest Asssistant General manager (Engineerin g) with responsibility
for System Planning, Engineering and Construction of the entire
NEPA development plan. |

The planning,
Engineering and Construction of the entire NEPA gird, including
major distribution as they existed in year 2000 were undertaken
during his tenure as AGM, Engineering (1973 - 1981). During this
period the present NEPA eight Power Station of Egbin, jebba, Shiroro,
Sapele, Ughili were built while Kainji, Afam,, and Ijora were expanded.
During 1981- 1983 he was the Group Managing Director
NNPC and he initiated the reorgnaization of NNPC for enhanced efficiency
and the implementation of key projects e.g. the Escravos to Lagos
Gas Pipline Project, the 2nd Port Harcourt Refinery and the Petrochemical
Projects.
He was rwetired from thr public service in 1984 and
has since been a private Energy Consultant.
He was course 1 member of the National institute
of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru jos. He is a fellow of the
Nigerian Society of Engineers, and also a fellow of the Nigerian
Academy of Engineering.
